I first envisioned this instrumental piece as a movie, tv or video game soundtrack. It starts with a theme played on piano/bell synths, which is then varied with violin, string ensemble and cello sounds. It gradually builds to an orchestral climax before resolving gently. As I worked, I later envisioned this as accompanying the act of Creation as described in Genesis 1. Hence, the title, “In the Beginning”.
I envisioned Enter the King as the soundtrack accompanying the entry of a mighty, noble, conquering hero into a congregation waiting with a mix of awe, respect and fear. As signs of his approach are evident, the anticipation grows, until he is unveiled in power.
One night, when my baby daughter Aria was finding it difficult to sleep, I put her on my lap and composed this tune on the piano. As often happened at that age, she fell asleep right there at the piano. I later expanded on that piece to create this, Aria’s Lullaby. Also available to purchase from your favourite digital stores.
I wrote this track while contemplating the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey in Houston Texas. For some reason, the refrain “Houston’s Going Down” played in my head, which I converted into a tune. Thankfully, Houston is not going down but incredible resilience and compassion arose from that disaster.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”. Hebrews 12:1 NKJV.
